Still no solution to my aforementioned problems, but since I still want to keep this blog rolling (pun intended) I have come up with an idea. What is happening is after an hour or so my uploads are timing out and I cannot get a full file to upload to either rapidshare or megaupload. So I am going to put this question to any and all who still may be lurking around my humble domocile:

Would anyone be interested in me uploading files song by song (i.e.: one file per song) or would this be a total waste of time? I think I can get it to work this way, and it would only be temporary until I get my shit together. I figure for those with accounts with rapidshare it probably wouldn't be a total pain in the ass, but for those without, it would probably take hours and hours. So let me know if this sounds okay for an interim solution and I will be back in a couple days to get a verdict. Please let me know either way.

Also wanna say hello and thanks to all those who haven't totally given up on me yet and thanks to Kit who has taken command of the liveandotherwise blog and turned it into one hell of a cool place to grab the hard goods!

Howdy soakes, I mean folks. I am now encountering problems with uploading and I cannot figure out if it is due to my new internet service provider or because of something with Vista. I am searching the web trying in vain to figure out the problem and I seem to be getting nowhere. I am not very tech savvy. Problem is my uploads are so slooooooow, rapidshare times out on my uploads. I am using a new ISP called Clearwire and I am hearing bad things about upload speeds with them, but my downloads are wizzin' (as long as I don't try to dl too much concurrently).
So I am not intentionally slacking, it's just I can't get this friggin' computer up to snuff.

As far as the Simon Stokes goes, I am trying to go through the DVDs I ripped before my other hard drive went kapoopie. If I can find it I will get it back up here, I hopefully didin't lose it along with a ton of other stuff.

As far as using the so-called link masks, I don't think they help as I encounter plenty of stuff at mass mirror, shareabee and lix that are deleted. So apparently there is no way to get around that.

And lastly on the debate of being able to hear stuff before you buy it (my final 2 pennies, and I am saying no more--til next time hehe), I agree to some extent with both sides. There are a lot of people that actually buy the stuff they like (I know 2 guys first hand at work that spend 80 to 100 bucks a week on CDs---they have the disposable income , and yeah they usually dl it first to see if it's worth their bucks), and probably just as many or more who don't. But if the people who dig it go and buy a used copy is that helping these bands anymore than if they download it? Not hardly. Is it hurting them anymore than if they download? I would have to say no again. The only time a download hurts an artist is if that person that downloads their album was going to buy that album new and then doesn't BECAUSE of that download. I have downloaded a lot of crappy stuff that I would never spend a penny on, and it has met Mr. Recycle bin. I don't keep trash, my apartment would stink. But speaking for myself I am a very poor person and (blah blah blah, most of you have heard my life story already) cannot afford to buy this stuff at 25-35 bucks a pop. The sad truth is when I get the luxury of buying a new CD it usually goes to the local used store next time I am hard up for cash. So I mostly buy used, and depend on the ignorance of most of the used stores in my area to not know what the hell they have when an obscure psych or prog CD hits their store (and that is few and far between).

But, say I download something by Band X and their tour bus pulls into town next Tuesday. I decide I can afford the 15-20 bucks (most bands I like haven't hit the arena prices yet) to catch them live and do so. I might even buy a trinket of memoribilia or a CD from them at the show.
Have I not become a supportive fan of Band X? Am I still a dirty rotten scoundel? Well, let's see.........

Now that money from the concert and trinket of worship will probably get to them, but Mr. Suit doesn't give a shit about that because I didn't buy the latest tin can lid he is making bucks on. So Mr. Suit decides to sue me, or hinder my ability to check out his band (no, I can't make a valid decision on a 22 second snippet or 1 or 2 songs, sorry! Lots of bands put out albums with 2 or 3 decent songs and 52-65 minutes of pure shit---and you know it, or you'd WANT me to hear it all). But yet still I understand your need to make a buck or two (or a hundred thousand), and until they come up with a way to make disposable downloads (i.e.: listen for 24 to 48 hours and they implode or something) I can understand your animosity to people like me. But just because you are upset about Band X getting downloaded, you don't have to go getting rare albums that will never see the light of day deleted to prove anything. Just ask and 95% of the bloggers will remove YOUR stuff. Then go to the painstaking efforts to have the other 5% removed. Most of us really don't wanna hurt anyone, even you. Do you really think you are doing your bands any favors? Do you remember a little band called Metallica? Don't alienate the ear that hears you.

I leave the blogsphere for a couple months and the whole place goes nuts. I have spent the last few weeks trying to dig up all my old links that I'd lost only to find that there is another (the same one?) so called deleter out there again and he/they are virtually destroying some of the best blogs out here.

It begs many questions. Why someone would waste time reporting and getting albums that sold about 5 copies in the last twenty years deleted? Don't they realise that they are all but eliminating any chance these albums have got? Are they just trying to ruin people's harmless enjoyment, of which there are so few left in this fucked up world?

I have said this before, and I have to say it again--you cannot stop this, and we will find other methods of sharing. You can't stop people buying used stuff, and you can't stop the liraries from loaning out the stuff. Give it up and get a life. Go fight against something you can actually win, or even better, something productive (God forbid!!). You are fighting something similar to a war on drugs here.

I just got an anonymus (of course) comment that said "We're stopping you from stealing from us......" and to that I say, why not let the artists decide for themselves if they want you to be their gatekeeper. Who made you king of the blogs? Myself and many others have gotten plenty of praise from artists who were just glad to be remembered (and also a few who asked their stuff to be removed--which all bloggers I know comply with A.S.A.P.). I don't recall any "we" becoming the appointed mayor(s) of blogtown.

I will be back in a couple days with some stuff, and it will probably only last a few hours so you'll have to grab it quick. Or possibly I will upload it twice and save one link for the good folks I know well to trust with them. We'll see how it goes. You know, if some people could just use the time they waste on petty nonsense for good, this world could be a better place.

Well the last post of this turbulent year is a great hard rock album from 1972. I'm sure anyone reading this blog is familiar with these guys and if by chance you aren't, here's the perfect oppurtunity to do so.

Note: I have been extremely out of the loop of the internet for the past couple months so, hopefully this hasn't been posted elsewhere. If so, I'll gloat about my grand rip at 320K.

This was ripped and uploaded basically to make sure I had everything tweeked right on this new computer. I will be back in a couple days with a bigger and better post.

Thanks to all the well-wishers who have stuck around over this past year of trials and tribulations. I decided to go ahead and get a computer instead of trying to fix the old one, and so after some heavy shopping, i picked out yety another Dell (I guess I'll never learn). Anyways, I am sitting here trying to learn this bullshit Vista and digging through my discs of programs to find my ripping software and other stuff I need to run this blog (poorly at best). It'll be a couple more days as i try, mostly in vain, to recover lost passwords and other such stuff.........

I went and fried my harddrive. I would say what the fuck else could happen, but I might get shown by some higher power. So again, until I can scrape the funds together to get a new PC or hard drive, we again will be having technical difficulties until further notice.

If anyone would like to contribute albums to the site in the meantime, please reply and I will post them here as I get a bit of access to the computer at work. At least this space won't go to waste.

Back to the tuneage.

Up first in a line of stuff that will hopefully please many of you, is yet another in a line of albums by the UK prog-rock band Babe Ruth. This is Kid's Stuff, from 1976 and while not as strong as their early albums like First Base, still manages not to disappoint completely. Shorter songs, more pop direction and a general lack of adventure dogs this one a bit, but this band had talent and they maintained it until the end.

And yet another in a long line of IF lps I've posted over the last year or so. This one is 1975's Tea Break Over...Back On Your "Eads. If you enjoyed the recently posted "Not Just Another Bunch of Pretty Faces" then this one won't disappoint.

This album from 1970 is one of my new favorites. Created by one Sixto Rodriguez, a man with a huge myth, who was extremely popular outside the U.S. (Australia for one) this album was a kiss off of sorts to a girl. Consider the era it was released in as you listen and you'll have no trouble figuring out why an album with this kind of sentiment wasn't doing big business at the retail counter. Love, peace and harmony are just the tip of what you AREN'T going to find in these grooves.

What you will find however is some very good rock, often hard rock with some biting lyrics and some very good songs. Give it a try!!

And finally for today, When the Raven Has Come to the Earth, a 1971 LP by the mysterious Strawberry Path. I gotta say it is one of the most visually unstimulating album covers I've had the pleasure of laying my corneas on. But this is a great smoking Japanese hard rock band with a singer who mildly resembles Tony Ashton, a keyboardist who ripped a page out of the Jon Lord playbook and a guitarist who hits on any number of early 70s rock axeslingers but still manages to make it sound fresh and yes, the man rips mightily song after song. Great fuzzed out rhythms and sharp stinging lead work are top shelf. Overall very good blues based early 70s hard rock with some mild prog touches.

I had to get out of the house I was living in as everything went wrong. The furnace when kapoot, the roof sprung a major leak and the water main broke. Shit happens I suppose. I finally (just an hour or so ago) got my internet back so I will be uploading some new stuff very soon. A new batch of goodies for ya'll. Baked fresh and just out of the oven for your consumption. Hope they taste good.

I goofed and lost my rapidshare account for a month, but all the links that are still active will remain so if I can get 10,000 points before August 18th (so download like a mutha if you like rapidshare).

This diverse batch of goodies starts off with some sunshine pop (or pop-syke if you please). This is Truck's Surprise Surprise. It's Malaysian psych and really was a surprise! Released in 1969, the major influence here would have to the Beatles hands down. So if you haven't gotten enough John Paul George and Ringo to get your fill lately, give this a try.

Absolutely beautiful artwork adorns this Italian hard psych release from Italy. This is I Raminghi's 1973 release Il Lungo Cammino Dei Raminghi. I love this and you will too (possibly).

A tiny blurb to go with this tiny artwork. The Japan psych has been popular so here is yet another. Good hard psych from Brush with their sole LP from 1971. The leader of this band moved on to Flied Egg after this. The LP has been reissued by Shadocks but it's vinyl only.

This band featured Elliot Ingbar who was better known as Winged Eel Fingerling when he played for Captain Beefheart and also was one of the guitarists on Frank Zappa's Freak Out LP. This album has it's Freak Out's too and it pretty cool psych.

I finally started that new blog I have been threatening to start to post news and views on the state of the world. If my posts on the subject earlier were of any interest to you, I would like to invite any and all of you to check it out and anyone is welcome to contribute to that blog. One or two more tiny rants before I get back to posting some cool obscure out of print music that I hope & pray CBS-Sony doesn't object too.
I was thinking about all this copyright this and copyright that bullshit I've been reading from several sources, and all of a sudden a big question popped into my head.....
Where the fuck are my rights? I guess I better buy a good pair of headphones because if Cary and his henchmen get their way, I might get sued for sharing sound waves of their precious bands. I am getting downright sick and fucking tired of everyone else's rights getting in the way of my rights as a consumer.
In a lot of ways this coincides with the post I made not too long ago about people getting alert and waking up to what is going down around them.
Back to the point----where can I find what rights I do have as a buyer of music (and movies as well) in the good old USSA. When I was twelve I bought a record album of Black Sabbath's Sabotage. When I was fourteen I bought the cassette, and a few years back I bought the damn CD. Now is it illegal for me to download the MP3's since I now have supposedly have some rights of ownership? Or can my 1995 burp and fart car be confiscated for doing so? Can I let my friends hear it legally? Will radio soon be only playing snippets of songs so no one can tape them of the airwaves? God forbid!!! Will the libraries soon only be able to loan out promo snippet copies of CDs and DVDs with constant 800 numbers flashing across the screen asking me to narc on the offending source of obtainment?
Does anyone know what my rights are and/or where I can find them? Or don't I have any other than being able to play my copy of my recording I purchased in a dark room by myself.

And to switch gears slightly and retouch on a oft-mentioned topic:

And to hit slightly on a related topic----It takes me back to the 80s when the RIAA was screaming foul at the makers of blank cassettes and boohooing that it would "kill the music". It didn't.
And here is a newsflash RIAA and henchmen. Bloggers aren't going to kill the music either and as long as MTV Cribs and all the other various TV tabloids are showing us the various houses of the stars (usually huge mansions with 8-10 cars parked outside) and all their flamboyant lifestyle choices, you aren't going to find many people sympathizing with you. Yes, again, I am a sensible person and I realize not all bands and artists are rich like that. But I can read, and I see the sales figures in billboard magazine and if the artists and performers aren't doing too well, it's probably got something to do with the life-draining contracts you've nailed them to, not the file swappers, and you just need a scapegoat.

I have gone here before so I am not gonna go haywire on the subject. Emails are pouring on both sides (as usual) and comments are being made so here is the deal........

First let it be said I have made notice in the past, and it holds for the future, that if anything I post here on this blog goes against anyone's wishes, please let me know and I will take it down immediately. I do not wish to infringe upon anyone's rights, weather they seem ridiculous or not.

I used to get email notifications instantly when someone responded to my posts, and for some reason blogger stopped sending them. I though no one was responding to what I was posting. No big deal, I just figuredno one had anything to say. Maybe I turned something off somewhere, I do not know, but for whatever reason, they are not going to my email.

On a whim I happened to go into blogger "dashboard" and found some 30 odd comments that needed moderation. Among them 2 requesting I remove an album I posted. One was a decent request to remove the said album, the second, a more venomous note with an implied warning or threat (perception in the eye of the beholder, may or may not be true).

Now, that being said, I have had folks ask that I remove albums before, and usually I get a decent email from either a band member or an associate of the band with a request to remove said item(s). I have always compiled as soon as humanly possible to these requests and never made a big deal about it, because it is the band's music and if they don't want people grabbing it to check out that is their business. I am at least of average intelligence and I knew the risks when I went into to blogging. I try my best to only post out of print stuff, and yes I know out of print doesn't mean it has no copyright. And I am very familiar with all the good work one Salvador Bono did to make those copyrights laws absolutely absurd.

But this has gotten way out of control. After my explanation of the reason why I did not comply to this person's request to remove said files immediately, that seems not to be good enough. Someone feels I need a lesson of facts I already know, and since they are being sent anonymously I cannot tell if these are associated with the person sending the original request to remove said files, if some rouge holier than thou is back in business, or what the hell is going on. Whatever it is, the file is gone forever, the band will never ever be mentioned in this blog again, and it is done and over with on my end. As far as a record label suing me goes---let me fill you in on my sordid details in case you haven't already heard me complaining in the past.

I am a 40 year old guy who works at a gas station. A clerk for christsakes. I am below poverty level's poverty level and I owe everyone and their brother at least a dollar. I couldn't borrow a quarter with 2 as collateral. My next three paychecks are spent already, friends! I ain't got nothing but an ever shrinking record collection that is slowly ending up at record stores/on ebay and this here computer (an eight year old Dell Dimension desktop) that is the one guilty pleasure I get out of life. And my internet gets shut off from time to time, they are one of the many that have to wait from time to time too. My back is completely fucked up, but I can't afford to take off work to go to the doctor, I support two kids that live with me and I drive a 1995 lawnmower on wheels with 123,000 miles on it . When it idles you could make milkshakes on the dashboard.

Yep--a perfect target for the RIAA. Come get me. As I said in my response to whoever in the comments--3 hots and cot ain't lookin' too fuckin' bad right now.

Now, please, this is over on my end. And if what I have done (complied with your request) isn't good enough for you, I am at a loss. And if this is some rouge piggy-backing you, then also know that will stop too, because any further comments pertaining to this will be deleted.

Again, longwinded as usual, I hope I made my point. I am still going to try to maintain this blog, but as it's summer and I am trying to get a second job to cover the first one, posts may be sporatic. But it ain't gonna be a fucking soap opera. I already live one. This is supposed to be my escape from that.

Stuff mostly in a psych vein today, because that's where my head's been lately, listening to some mind expanding trippy sixties (and early 70's) vibrations. But as always a few surprises thrown in to hopefully give everyone a bit of enjoyment. First up for today is some psychy hard rock from the Floating Bridge. This Seattle, Washington band's only LP, released on Vault in 1969, is mainly good fuzzed out hard originals, and then two kinda Deadish jam cover tunes done as instrumentals. Although I could do without the cover tunes, the rest of the album is highly recommended.

I've probably said it before, but most of the so called Christian psych I hear sounds more like folk music to me, not that there's anything wrong with that, but when the word psych is thrown in, I wanna hear psych for Christian sake. That problem is not an issue here, however. This one, the Last Call of Shiloh, from 1969 ranks up there with People, Moonrakers and All Saved Freak Band on my list of dyed in the tye, hippie psych Jesus rock. Nice stuff with some good guitar licks and although the lyrics overbear a bit, it's some gosh darn good listenin'.

Here's an interesting rock album I picked up a few years ago based on cover (always a 50/50 chance of something good coming from it) and what I got turned out to an album with a bit of history. I'll share what I found out from an unknown (forgotten) site on the web:

Produced by Peter Schekeryk; Engineered by Eddie Kramer & Bruce Staple. Recorded at the Electric Lady Studios, NYC, NY in 1972. Is alleged to features Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley on backing vocals, BUT this has not been substantiated. Five dollar Shoes was: Gregg Diamond (drums, percussion, vocals), Tom Graves (keyboards, vocals), Jim Gregory (bass, vocals), Mike Millius (harmonica, vocals), and Scott Woody (guitar, vocals). As for the music, it's kinda "Allman Bros. Meets New York Dolls with a touch of Pink Floyd" early 70's rock.

Saw this on a want list from 60/70 rock and hopefully he'll catch this one. This is a very early shred album from either '81 or '83 from a band called Meat Phredd. It was recorded in Columbus, Ohio and I could kick my own ass, because I sold mine a year and half ago for 5 bucks and it gets 150+ on ebay!!!! This one is a vinyl rip from that said LP and is unfortunetly divided into side one and side two mp3s with no song titles listed. Being that it is instrumental guitar music, I guess the song titles really don't matter, but they can be found on the net if one were to look a bit. Recommended if you are into the Joe Satriani Steve Vai type wanking, otherwise you may wanna avoid.

I just found this the other day in a bargain bin at a local CD store!! 3 bucks for this one. Turned out to be some really cool hard proggy stuff. I haven't really done much digging on the band (again, check the 'net, there's probably more info on it) but I'm guessing from the dates on the CD it comes from 1975 originally.

More Detroit rock and roll. Dick Wagner led the Frost, and it's hard rock with maybe a slight RnB tinge. Dick as many of you know went on to play with Alice Cooper supplying tasty licks to some of Alice's post Cooper band LPs . This is Frost Music from 1969, originally released on Vanguard in the states.

This one I uploaded as a favor to a friend, and decided to include it here if anyone would like to check it out. In the late 60's Marshall Chess was trying to hop on trends, since his roster of 50's blues and RnB clients were considered passe and behind the times, he decided to pair them up with hip and happening new sounds (i.e: Chuck Berry with the Steve Miller band) and see if he couldn't score some action with it. This is Muddy's result. The gatefold LP's inner sleeve showing a picture of Muddy with a process hairdo and a long flowing robe says it all. He tried the same thing with Howlin' Wolf (the title was: Howlin' Wolf Does Not Like This Album.....) with mixed results. But Muddy's LP was actually pretty cool. He covers the Stones (logical choice bandwise since they were disciples of his, but song choice a bit iffy) and retooled some of his classics to "fit the times". A mixed bag, but one that is never boring.

And finally, some more mainstream rock, this being Brandywine's Aged LP from 1970. A few hard rock tunes intertwine with more mainstream rock sounds. Never bubblegummy or sappy, just nice AOR for the times and well worth checking out. I will admit I'd never heard this U.S. band until a couple weeks ago and was pleasently surprised.

Jim Dandy & the boys are still slogging it out after all these years and here is an album of their's that fell through the cracks. I don't much about it, because most people don't seem to care much about these guys anymore. They can still rock and this album from 2001 that is extrememly hard to find proves it.

This is the Paper Garden's sole LP, released on the Musicor label which jumped on the psych bandwagon too late to matter (this and Rebbeca & the Sunnybrook Farmers where the extent of it, I believe). But this one is highly sought after and routinely goes for 80 dollars plus. And it's probably worth it too.

I hope I didn't scare everyone away with my previous post. I just felt I should say something about the state of things as I am perceiving them. I am going to get a music post up in the next day or so but I have been so wrapped up in current world events and amazed at how blind so many people seem to be to it or just don't seem to care.

I have decided to continue any posts on subjects not music related on a separate blog so those that seem to happy with the state of the world will not be offended by my remarks.

Eventually, when I gather my thoughts together I will start that blog, so check my profile and it will pop up sometime soon.

For those of you who just hang around for the music, I just posted a few new ones so go on below and grab 'em.

I am not gonna go off on deleter assholes or anything like that, I've just been reading a lot stuff the past few days that has gotten me to thinking about the state of the world and the absolute mess we are in.

What terrifies me most is that things are getting worse daily, weekly and monthly and no one seems to want to stop any of it. Where are all the people crying out about the injustices in the world. Have we all become sheep? Why does everyone seem to be willing to let the government take our lives over and not let out a whimper.

Watch the following and see if it doesn't unnerve you a bit. It is a parody of sorts but it is a chilling prediction of things to come. And if you think it can't happen here, listen to the Frank Zappa song with that title or any number of his early Mothers songs and see he was a bit more prophetic than he seemed 15 or 20 years ago.

What scares me is how the world is getting scarfed up at an alarming rate by a few individual companies whose main objective seems to be to rule this world. There used to be laws to keep this sort of thing from happening. Now all of these DMRC and IPPA laws are being legislated as a smoke screen to keep the agencies that should be watchdogging multi-national corporations busy watchdogging internet file sharers and people using pirated software. Don't worry about our country becoming the Fourth Reich, the Social Republic of WalMart, or the Eisner States of America, for Christ sake Johnny is downloading the new Madonna single. Never mind the fact Johnny can't afford that CD because he already works for us for subhuman slave wages, never mind the fact that record companies phased out real singles 15 years because no one was buying the rest of her horrid fucking album, and never mind that he can go to any library in America and "borrow" and rip the damn file in the privacy of his own home. He is on "our" internet and now he must pay dearly. Prison for Christsakes, or a portion of his subhuman slave wage check for the rest of his life here on "our" earth.

Move out the mass murderers, move out the child rapists, move out the terrorists, because we need prison space for internet pirates.

What is next folks? When two or three major companies own 90% of the world who do you think is going to make the decisions? Nobodies like you and me or the 5 major shareholders of WalMart whose combined salaries beat the combined total of everyone who works for them? And don't forget they are the world's biggest employer. What does that tell you? And stop and think as you buy that 4 pack of shit tickets for 79 cents less than the mom and pop store (if you are lucky enough to still have those, if not they were the guys down the street that actually cared to get to know you and your family) that is just a few dollars away from sticking that huge red going out of business sign in their front window, am I somehow partly responsible for killing the dream? Remember when the middle class ruled? Remember when you were a kid and your dad who worked for General Motors made a house payment, a car payment, payed all the other bills and still had enough left over to take you to the ballgame or maybe enough time to hang out and play ball in the front yard because he didn't have to work 3 jobs to survive under the conditions WE have sat back and let happen. Remember when moms could stay home and care for your needs? Could this be a direct cause of why our world has become so impersonal and cold, because mom has to work and cannot nurture the children into loving caring human beings. Why does a house that sold for 10,000 dollars in the 60's now sell for 100,000? Why does a car that sold for 2400 in the 60s now cost 25,000? Does the guy that made 3.00 an hour in the sixties actually make 30.00 an hour now? For the most part I doubt it. But I do know that CEO that made 25,000 a year in the 60s probably makes 2,000,000 (or more) now. Does that tell you anything about why prices are so high? It should. I could go on and on about this, and reasons why everyone should stop this madness and start caring about human beings once more. Start making a differnece in people's lives and quit worrying about weather their paycheck is 3 billion or 4 billion this year. Start paying people a decent wage so that crime and alcoholism rates go down. Stop profiting off the misery of others and start showing some compasion before it's too late. To lift a passage from FZ the prophet again, if there is a hell, it surely waits for these multi death corporations, oil barrons, politicians who cater to big business and not the needs of it's people, slave labor cartels, record companies who profit from their own consumers who can't afford to buy everything they push like dope, and heaven, if it exists will be an empty paradise where the tired and downtrodden have the last laugh. Or maybe what we exist in now is that hell we have to deal with for eternities to come.

All I'm trying to say it, get educated if you aren't already. Dig around, seek the truth. It's out there, you just have to sniff it out. It's buried behind all the yellow smiley faces, it's buried behind the Snow White and Mickey Mouse costumes, it lurks underneath every shining facade "they" can try "their" best to mask it with. Look around and you may be surprised to see that once you find it in the deep recesses "they" try to hide, it's right out there in the open for all to see. You just missed it the first time around. Maybe we all just need to pay more attention.

Since the Mops went over fairly well, I decided to post some more mindwrecking Jap-psych. This being Speed Glue & Shinki's 1971 album Eve. When the Japanese decide to take on a trend they either take it to new dimesions or totally warp the hell out of it, and I must say it is never less than intriguing. But this, friends, is fairly astonishing stuff. As Shinki would probably tell you "Pray Rowed" (sorry, had to do it)!!!

Some garage stuff up next, this being an LP I actually had uploaded for that megasuperoverkill post I did last time out, and the cover disappearedso I did the same with the link. Found a new cover so here's the link. This is the 2nd and last Leaves LP from 1967 (or early 8 maybe). The band was falling apart as the album was being constructed so some of the ideas here seem a bit half-baked or ill-constructed. The finished product is basically a mish mash of garage rock-folky type stuff and straight pop (abeit with psychy overtones, it was 1967 as this was being put together). But there are a few diamonds in the rough here and all in all it's not a bad rekkid, and generally a fun trip, especially with the forgiving hindsight of the band's dilema. Reished on One Way back in the mid 90's here in the States, this one is sadly out of print and growing rarer.

Rhino Handmade finally made the Fugs Reprise albums available to the CD market a year or two ago in a pricey boxset (now no longer available, I'm told)that had every note Tuli and crew tooted for the label. Nice for those folks with mucho dinero. For po' folks such as myself, who dig the Fugs, but not enough to go without groceries for week to own their CDs, here is a rip of my favorite (studio) Reprise album, 1968's Belle Of Avenue A. There are two camps of Fugs fans, those who thrive on the early ESP recordings, rough and amateurish minimalist readings, and those who like the more expertly recorded (both musically and technically) later stuff. I fall into the later camp and this one is just a great listen, and while it's not as risque and out of control as the early stuff, the fidelity more than makes up for it. And the band STILL had plenty on their minds.

Continuing with the seemingly popular West Coast psych I've been upping at a rate of about 1 elpee to a post, here is SanFrancisco's Day Blindness. Released in 1969, it is their sole platter, and is another great example of the style of tuneage that was seemingly created on a daily or weekly basis in the warm bay breeze of Frisco round these times. These guys were friends of the Dead and the music has more than a subtle hint of Deadhead vibe throughout, but still manages some originality and good ideas throughout.

This one is surprisingly good, and grows on you with repeated listenings.

And the second of of the hard rock, here's one I can't say enough great things about. Either released in 1973 or 1978 originally (the CD says '78) depending on who's site you go to. It definetly sounds more '73 style to me. The rewiews all point to Black Sabbath as the reference point, but I tend to think more along the lines of the first two Blue Oyster Cult albums as this is ominous sounding but not quite heavy or dirgelike enough to really compare with Sabbath. But it's fantastic stuff nonetheless and I love this one and have been playing it endlessly the past few days.

Some soulful rock to start your work week (unless you are one of those lucky enough not to have to work). These guys are another band from the label that gave us Big Star (Ardent). Nice stuff, not too soft, not hard by any means, just really good acoustic based rock. From 1973 here's the Hot Dogs with Say What You Mean.

Now on to harder stuff. Here's Babe Ruth's self titled 1975 LP with their great version of the theme from Fistful of Dollars. I guess a logical progression from their intriguing "the Mexican" from the First Base LP. Always liked these guys, from Jenny Hahn's powerful vocals to the general tightness of the band.

Fear Itself's self titled (and only) LP from 1969 treads the same waters as most early San Fran bands (wheater or not they were from that neck of the woods or not). Ellen McIlwaine definetly sounds like Grace from the Airplane a time or two (if not more) and the band pulls a lot of the same moves as many of those Haight Ashbury type bands (including the annoying habit of feeling the need to do one goofy novelty type tune with that 30's ragtime or jugband sound. I cannot count how many great psych albums are marred by that unnerving penchant by these bands). Anyways, some nice West Coast groovin' contained herein.

Couldn't find a cover for this one, nor do I know if it exists. This band (the) Shag being a notable presence on many festival bills during the late sixties and for sure releasing at least one single during their existance (the one pictured, sadly not contained on this album) this album maybe a comp of sorts or a reissue. This one kinda threw me for a loop as the first track, "Gypsies In the Forest" sounds like it might have been a Jethro Tull outtake with a different singer during the Mick Abrahams period. Bluesy prog/psych stuff with quite a bit of charm. Then the second track began. Whoa....if it weren't for the singer being so recognizable, I'd swear it was a different band!! Hard rock, actually quite jammin' hard rock with loud fuzzy guitars up high in the mix, blastin' forth some grade A tunes. Stunned I tried to find some info on the band, as usual other that what I gave you above I couldn't find out much. But here's another of those finds I get so happy about. Any info? Please share!!

I am going to be moving before summer ends and I would like to avoid moving as many of these as possible. Some have been posted here, some will surprise. I didn't just collect psych, prog and hard rock (although there are plenty of those) but there are many genres (country, jazz, new wave--all kinds of stuff). Next post I will give the address of the website and hopefully you can grab some goodies cheap (by no means am I giving them away, but I'm not pricing them anywhere near book values, there will be lots of 1-2 dollar albums there).

Japanese hard rock and psych from 1971. Amazing stuff and supposedly their rarest. This is Mops with Iijanajka.

This one really isn't hard rock stuff, but it is the band that led to one of the seventies biggest hard rock bands Queen. Some folks called them hard prog, but although it might apply to the first few albums, they seemed to go more in the hard rock direction (and unfortunetly disco toward the end of the decade). As the pic at the left denotes, this was Brian May & Roger Taylor's pre Queen band, and contains some pretty interesting psych and rock. And you can definetly tell it Brian May behind the six string being played here. Some quite tasty licks too, from time to time. From 1969.

This one smokes, folks. A band called Zarpa from Spain that I have become a huge fan of. This is from '78, and is called Los 4 Jinetes Del Apocalypsis. Lotsa fuzzed out space rock here, and was a surprising hidden gem. This one is from 1978.

And sent from a friend of the blog--here's the Nuge at his transition period. At this time with the Motor City being infiltrated by the likes of the Stooges and the MC5, Ted's music began to turn from the psych of the 60's to the sludgey hard rock of the aforementioned bands. Although he would soon refine this sound and tone it down a bit for two underappreciated LPs for Frank Zappa's DiscReet label and then refine it even further for a major label (Epic), this is raw, abrasive, primal scream performed live on a big Gibson ES-335. My favorite track on here, the title track, is probably one of the wildest songs the Nuge can claim responsibility for. Sounds like it was gonna be the live version of "Journey to the Center of the Mind" and Ted got a bit sidetracked. A motley bunch of music

Can't really think of a theme here, a few are requests, but mostly this is just stuff I've been listening to. Some I've just recently gotten (and will therefore only comment briefly) and it's all pretty interesting. Some of it I had never even heard of before, some I have but had never heard the music before, such as this hard rock from 1975. A US band, and I know nothing about them other than what I need to know. And that is they rock. Fairly heavy for '75, but some of it does sound a bit dated hearing it for the first time some 32 years later. But finding stuff like this is what I live for--if you are the same, give this a shot. Hard rock with a bit of southern influence, especially those twin leads.

Another one I've had for years, and got a request for. This is the band Wings (obviously not the McCartney bunch) with their folk inflenced lone LP from 1969. Crazy Mama & Papas vibe on this one. If fact, if you played it for someone who had never heard Cass & crew, they would be hard pressed to tell them apart at points. They even do one old timey 30's sounding tune like the aforementioned band seemed to enjoy doing from time to time. So my caveat for this one is: if you dig Mamas and Papas, you'll dig, if you don't, you won't.

Way back in this blogs early daze, I did huge post of the Amon Duul stuff with the help of Microdot (you still out there bro?) and I got a cool letter from a fan of the band who asked if I could repost this one because it was one of the few he didn't have. Since it is one of my faves , here it is. This is probably the most diverse album the band had released, it still has the psychy leanings of the earlier stuff at points, but they have gotten a tinge heavier and there is no denying the band as composers and musicians had grown immeasurably by this time. Here is Wolf City from Amon Duul 2.

This is another new one to me. But it is great stuff!! As the Thunderhead above, this one was a great find. 1977 LP, as far as I can tell the sole output from these guys. No info on the net that I could find. But this one is definetly worth checking out. I hear some BTO inflences and it's just good ol 70s hard rock, I can say no more. Try it, you know you wanna!! And BigFootKit has added more to the story of this one in the comments section.

From the 1968 album Tanyet, here's some great psych from the Ceyleib People. Amazing stuff and sounds way ahead of it's time. 3 long songs, that go anywhere from hard rock to classical in the blink of an eye, all the while maintaining that druggy 60's vibe throughout. This one contains a 4th track which is actually the 2nd track supposedly "reprocessed" but it sounds the same to me. But I stuck it in here anyways.

And another request for my grande finale today. I think this came from the old Chrisgoesrock sight from about a year or so ago (so thanks to him, or if not him--whoever it was!!) . Great Dutch (standing corrected from my earlier pronouncment it was Krautrock) prog from 1972 ( I think--there is a text file in the rar) and has a bit of US inflence and a rock vibe going on.

Holy shit!!! Two days in a row!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

You know every once in awhile I just get in one those postin' moods. And I think I have some goodies for ya today. Mostly bands with a "A" but I threw a "C" in there to bumfuddle that whole thing.

Here's the last album to carry the Argent name (except for those Hits LPs and comps and the like). This one is 1975's Counterpoints, and while not their best, it certainly deserves a spin or two. Hindsight being twenty twenty you can kinda hear the end being near on this one. And you know Russ Ballard was the visionary of the group because all the really great songs around this time were on his solo albums. Jim Rodford shines on this album (he soon migrated to arguably the 2nd best lineup of the Kinks after this) with some nice groovin' basslines. Fave of mine is the closer "Road Back Home".

The Comfortable Chair, discovered by this cat named Jim Morrison that a few of you knowledgeable readers may have heard of once or twice and produced by his bandmate Robby Kreiger, this is some interesting stuff to be sure. The sole platter executed by these guys and gal, some West Coast sunshine for those cold East coast days.

Here's something you don't see on my blog too often. Latin influenced jazz rock. This was basically an offshoot of the early Santana band and featured Coke Escovado and Neal Schon who we all know left this for a journey that started out promising and then turned into some pretty insipid pop pap thanks to a guy named Steve. But this stuff is some fairly potent latino groovin' by a 14 piece band that made a self titled debut and then this their 2nd and final. Coke went a more jazz-pop direction for the Mercury label after this.

It's Friday and I'm having a revelation (as well as actually getting quite a bit of stuff together to post finally)!!! I'm sitting here watching this Sex & the City show for the first time(too lazy to get up and change the channel--the remote batteries are dead)and it's all clear to me now...This is a show of hope! If you can't find the person of your dreams---move to New York City---because if these 3 skanks can get laid as consistantly as they do, anyone has a shot. I say 3 because there is one lady on there who is quite the babe (I believe her name is Kristen Davis, and of course her character is married to the only goofy looking guy on the show, the 3 skanks all have Greek gods hanging all over them, in fact, in the show I'm watching, the ugliest of the 3 ugly ones has two guys foaming at the mouth over her). So it's either the aforementioned show of hope, or someone's fantasy, I can't figure out which. And this Kim Katrall character....she thinks she is the absolute shit, and I can't for the life of me figure out what it is that guys would go ga-ga over. Maybe 20 years ago, when she was a z-movie actress in that Mannequin movie, but now? She looks like somebody's mom to me (and I'm 40 years old for chissakes). All I know is this show must be written by chicks. They should rename the show 3 Skanks and a City Full of Hard Up Men since the only cute one is no longer "on the prowl". On a scale of one to ten this pooper gets a two as a fantasy, a minus five as anything else. Thank God Scrubs is up next! I need comic relief after this bufoonery.
Well anyways, enough of my sorry ass television show reviews.

To continue in my posting of Neil Merryweather and things related, here is the 1971 (or 72 depending on where you get your info) LP by Neil with his girlfriend Lynn Carey (Beyond the Valley of the Dolls) as Mama Lion. The cover is pretty cool in that when you slide out the inner sleeve Lynn and a baby lion are doing something very interesting. And that photo is in the rar, but I decided to save that for your download. As far as the music goes it's early seventies hard rock/soul and Lynn is quite a belter in the Merry Clayton/Jenny Haan style. If that's your bag, then grab this one, cuz you'll dig it.

Nextly (I love that word, just made it up), we have a great Finnish prog band's LP from 1970. This one is finding quite a bit of airtime at Casa de Time Traveller right now. The tracks vary from hard bluesy rock to lite and airy flute ladden soft prog and I am getting blown away by the hard side of these guys. I know nothing much about them and don't care. When they wanna rock they rip it to shreds.

Yeah I admit it, I didn't pay my cable bill. So they shut me off. I would love to see some competition for those money grubbing sons-a-bitches come to my town, they rip me off and suck me dry. But I paid their sorry asses and I'm back, and this weekend I will do my best to make up for the neglect. Here's a little bit now and I'll have some more later.

Here's one that I've had several requests for a repost for and finally here it is. This is the Baroques only album from 1967. Released on Chess to little or no fanfare at the time due to Chess not giving it much promo. But it's top notch garage psych and this is the bootleg CD version which is really a nice vinyl rip (much better than the original I posted) plus 10 or so outtakes, single only sides and other stuff. This is not the compilation released a few years back that deletes a few of the original albums tracks. This one has all the original Lp tracks so I'm told.

Comments and Question time again!

Well it looks like everyone's friend the deleter is back and operating in full-force. I have some stuff to put up here but I'm afriad it would be a waste of time as it will be deleted in a matter of hours. I am looking into alternative methods of getting stuff out there but I am enforcing some new rules on myself.

I will no longer post in-print items here even if they are imports that cost an arm & a leg.

Why the fuck is this italicised?

I will be posting items with deposit files again. For some reason they just last longer. If you cannot use deposit files for whatever reason, I may be able to help you out but email me, don't leave comments, my email address is in my profile. I will not post comments related to the file host I use and I cannot respond to them except on blogger and then everyone sees the secondary link which will then be deleted. If the files start disappearing on deposit files then it is time to find something else, like torrents or multiply. I am sorry, but I just got severly expanded hours at work, and I don't have as much time to spend on blogging as I used to. Re-ups are a redundant pain in the ass, and I detest doing it. It's just like doing laundry except laundry has to be done but a repost doesn't. I am going to take care of those I already promised but no more re-ups after those.

I will have a post up in a day or two.

And finally I have a question for someone who may be a techie as far as computers go. This will probably be long and drawn out but bear with me.

I got a DVD-Rom for my computer as a gift. I installed it and everything seems to work great. It records discs fine and plays them back fine. But my computer will not show which files are on the discs. If I shut the PC down and reboot it, it will sometimes show me the contents of the first disc I put in, but after that every disc I insert comes up with the same data as the previous disc I inserted. Does anyone know what is going on? It also does the same thing on Roxio (my burning software) and Win Amp. I have taken them to a friends and they show up fine on his PC but on mine it doesn't seem to work.

Please help if you know because I cannot play the discs (they all have MP3 data on them and when I try win-amp I get nothing but weird noise).

Well, it's been a week. I promise as I get more used to my job I will get back to at least two updates a week, but I am a slow creature when it comes to adapting, and I am going to try my best to plop another batch of tunes up in the next day or so. But for now here's a cool LP from the prog-rock force known as Lake. First caught these guys on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and thought they had a kind of Supertramp vibe. But it turned out that was only a small part of what the band has to offer.
There is also an album or two of theirs posted over at walknthebass' site and hopefully they are still available because they are actually as good or better than this, their 1980 LP called Ouch!.

I am completely fed up with the stupid "fuck you" comments and people posting their "get rich quick scheme " and "buy our snake oil" links in the comments section. This is a music blog. If I wanted to get rich quick I'd rob a fucking bank, if I want to feel good I'd take some fucking drugs, okay? So comment moderation has been enabled. If your post relates to music, good or bad, I will post it. If it's to tell me my rips suck (I know they do) or the aforementioned bullshit I have a spam filter.

Secondly, I got so fed up with the nag screens I took the plunge and upgraded to the new blogger. It seems to work about 50 times better than the old one, so yippee for that.

Thirdly and lastly (more new words), I got tired of the emails to upload my stuff to rapidshare, so the last guy that emailed, I emailed back if you want rapidshare so goddamn bad, buy me an account. Well lo-and-behold, the person sent me 10 bucks to buy the damn thing so now I guess I'm back to rapidshare for awhile. If anyone asks me not to post to rapidshare and I'm going to lose whats left of my mind and start shooting.

Oh, and no, I still haven't uploaded that missing Simon Stokes track yet. I will soon, promise!

This was a request over at the other blog, but since Kit just posted a great set of cool shit, I decided to put it here. These guys were always highly touted 'round my town as a great seventies hard rock band. I was slightly disappointed at first listen, but I decided my expectations were set too high by hype and after judging them on their own merits have grown to really like these guys. And to finish today's post on a quieter note, probably the mellowest album from the 'Van. Probably the least favored by fans of the 'Van (at least according to various websites). It's not my favorite either but it's really not bad for what it is, a 1976 lite-prog rock album. It was a bad year for the genre with that noisey punk music rearing it's ugly head in the UK and Boston and Peter Frampton ruling the airwaves in teh states. This album didn't stand a chance. But by request from at least a couple people here's Blind Dog at St. Dunstans. Hell they even mellowed out on the title. Remember Cunning Stunts (that Metallica shamelessly stole without giving credit) and For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night, or maybe If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You?

There is plenty to keep you busy over there, but as promised and delayed twice now, I will get to work on the requests.

It may be tomorrow or Wednesday until I get them up, downloading all this cool stuff has taken some time. But todays stuff include most if not all of the Babys LPs, most if not all of the Santers LPs, lotsa NWOBHM, and more more more.

I am also trying to figure out a way to post some items I need to sale, but I haven't come up with a way yet. I just want to sell them cheap because I am going to be moving soon (next month or two) and due to my back problems I no longer want to lug all this stuff around, and also I don't want to deal with ebay, gemm or musicstack. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do? If you do by all means email me or leave a comment. I will need to use the paypal payment system (God help me) to do it (it's my mother's account--same one the donations are going to) so any help would be most appreciated.

I have to work the next 4 days so although I will be checking in and getting the requests done. My posts will be thin until the weekend.

After Ian Hunter and Mick Ralphs left "the Hoople" Mott continued on with 2 more albums of decent hard rock. Nobody seemed to care but these are definetly worth a listen. The albums Drive On from '75 and Shouting and Pointing from '76.

I believe I have these ladies to thank for my first adolescent fantasies. The ultimate bad girls, the Runaways. This is their first from 1976. Most everyone knows this already but Joan Jett and Lita Ford both started out in this band. Not everyone knows that Vicki Blue, a later member of the band shot a great documentary about the band called "Edgeplay" that has been released on video and is a must see if you are even remotely interested in these lovely ladies.

Here's the cover featuring Cherie Currie, an early point of contention in the band as the other members were none too happy about being left out. I think it's a great cover myself.

And for the southern rock fans, this is a very underated band that should have been huge. Raging Slab were around for around 10 years, first with an indie punk label (Buy Our Records), then they moved to RCA where they released this self titled LP in 1990, then moved to Rick Rubin's Def American label where they scored a minor hit with "Take A Hold" from their first Def American LP, and recorded at least two others before riding off into that sunset we call oblivion. Where are these guys (and girl) now? If you like hard southern boogie, you can't do much better than this one! Check out "Joyride". Excellent song, and that pretty little filly on the cover is responsible for that rippin' slide guitar heard throughout this raging slab of an album.

And here's a band that started out more in a progressive vein but as the 70's wore on found AOR to be more to their liking. America didn't seem to care at all until they released a little dittie called My Girl in 1981 that was a brilliant slice of classic power pop. After that they disappeared here in the states, but remained big in Canada. This is the best of their stuff according to the cover, but there were some glaring omissions although "My Girl" and several other good power pop/AOR goodies can be found on this one.

Desmond Child & Rouge - 1st. 1978.

I have a big problem with this guy. He ruined many great bands with his sappy cliched songs, Aerosmith for one, but this album was an early attempt at stardom on his own. It shows a lot of the reasons he failed, but also brings back memories as he made early videos for some of these songs that were shown on Midnight Special and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and those songs are like visits to time long gone that I wish would return. Some folks say he is an AOR god. I beg to differ.

King's X - Acoustic Groove - Live Westwood One 1991

A highly underated band, and one that has never released a bad album, but has never gotten much recognition for all of the good ones. The one that did attract a bit of attention for the band, Faith Hope and Love (1990) was the least satisfying of all as they briefly adapted a Lenny Kravitz style and all but forgot their smoking hard rock/metal and boogie-funk fests. They retified that on the albums that followed and were rewarded with an undeserved return to obscurity to all but those of us who knew. The guitarist, Ty Tabor has released several good solo LPs and Doug Pinnick, bassist and vocalist, has guested with several groups in the studio and on tours. Those in the know about these guys rave on endlessly (like myself!!). Here's a short set from the acoustic groove radio show released during their brief stint of radio popularity in early '91.

I got an email from a very nice person asking if I would like to post some files he had uploaded. I said of course, I always welcome contributions to the blog and to my surprise he responded with a ton of great stuff!!! Some of It will be posted both here and some at live and otherwise as there is a lot of NWOBHM and other metal, along with some great obscure AOR and stuff from his homeland that I am unfamiliar with (but soon will be!!). It's time for some Raw Material. These are the two studio albums released in 1970 and 1971 by request. Vintage prog and quite good. Time Is to my ears is the better of the two but both offer many delights to all ears who love great early progressive rock.

It was stolen from P2P a long time ago. Interesting if sometimes new agey stuff, I call it good background music, but then isn't all music just a background for the soundtrack of life?

And for some heavier fare, here is one of my favorite early Scorpions LP, with the stratocaster master Uli Jon Roth. He is a definite disciple of Hendrix and if you like 70s hard rock give this a shot, this is nothing like the Scorpions of the 80's. The slower songs even give off an air of progressive rock at times and the heavy ones, although they sound slightly dated now due to Roth's Hendrixisms (I'm filing for a copyright on that word) are truly original in execution. I figure Scorpions were kind of on their own plane at this time, not really having a lot of blueprints to follow. At first listen some of these songs may sound a bit out of tune but they really grow on you with repeated listening and they develop quite well.

And yeah, I know I said I was going to start putting stuff like this over at the other blog, it just seemed to fit better here. This is most popular album from the Ozark Mountain Daredevils from 1974, It'll Shine When It Shines. It contains both their most well known song "Jackie Blue" which was a hit in early '75 and my personal favorite E.E. Lawson which upon first listen, seems like a novelty song due to the wannabe Jim Dandy style vocal delivery, but stands up to repeated lsitenings well. The album shows the two facets of the band well, their rocking soulful side which earned them most of their popularity, and their stone (or stoned)
country side which I felt was more honest, at least they sound more comfortable with it. Good stuff by request from long ago.

Well as the old clock hits midnight I turn the dreaded (for me) age of 40. And I also start a new job tomorrow. It's gonna be a real interesting day. I have to train for three days and I've got the rest of the week off to forget all I learn, so I will probably have time to do a little better post later this week. But on the upside I sit here doing what I like to do, working on my blog. That makes me happy. So away we go..........

First one for today was a problem. I got it from a guy I trade with and it was listed as the self titled LP by a band called Outside Looking In. I couldn't place it, but I couldn't find any info on a band called "Outside Looking In". I found a few close matches, but nothing. And with the help of some of the fine folks that come here I found out it was actually this one. What's really embarassing is I've had the damn album for years. See why I don't wanna be 40, if my memory is this bad now, what the hell is gonna happen in ten years? Twenty? Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! I don't even wanna think about it. But anyways here is the Tangerine Zoo's 1968 LP Outside Looking In. God help me!

Here's the fairly obscure LP by White Witch's frontman, Ron Goedert called Breaking All the Rules. Pretty good stuff but a bit different that the stuff he did with the Witch. Of course the times had changed from the early 70's, production values had improved drastically so quite possibly this could be what an updated version of WW would sound like, who knows. But by all means if you liked the White Witch stuff this a least deserves a listen .

Here is the Nutz album, from I believe 1977. I posted it before but it was a vinyl rip and if memory serves correct (a 50/50 proposition at best) it was just the sides of the albums without splits. And as I have been slacking off on my personal favorites for a while, I was listening to this today and said, ah what the hell, I'll stick it up. This album is sort of a transitional one for Clinton & crew. He hasn't gone full on funk yet, there is still plenty of the psychy hard rock of old, and plenty of rockin' jams. Killer riffs abound from Eddie Hazel and the album is just loaded with killer hooks that drag you in. Every time I listen to Standing on the Verge of Getting It On, I walk around half the day singing and humming the songs, and the death threats for doing so don't even affect me. My personal favorite track is the pseudo-novelty song "Jimmy's Got a Little Bit of Bitch In Him" and in a way it's typical of what is so great about this album. The Eddie Hazel wah-wahed out riff, the humor, and the unstoppable groove that wavers betweeen what was and what was to come from this excellent band. Magnificent!!!

Some good prog and blues for your Monday cruise

For you lucky stiffs who get to rise up early and hit the road, here's some progressive gems and one blues wailer for those of you who wish you didn't have too. And for those who prefer theirs a bit stronger some more NWOBHM from Bigfoot Kit to blow out your speakers with! I'm trying a different style layout today to see if blogger will behave any better than it has been lately so for today at least, the tiny blurbs I compose will be showing up under the pics instead of beside them (or at least I think. Guess we'll all see when I hit that magic publish button.

And this isn't by request, but it's a favorite of mine, and probably could become a favorite of yours too if you give it a chance. It's Beyond Expression by the group Finch. This Finch is Dutch, I also know of a Finch from Aussieland and another from the UK. These gentlemen deliver some excellent instrumentals (not a word on this one!!) that will dazzle and amaze you. Twists and turns abound and just when you think you know where they are going, they hit you with a change up and go in a different direction. Side one of this 197g LP is taken up by one track, and it's 20 minutes long and still never ceases to amaze me. Especially the guitarist, Joop. He sounds kind of like an Akkerman discipile and he can absolutely tear it up when given a chance to strech out as he is in this song. Really when you think about not too many guys were playing mind baffling runs like these in year of '76. Not that the rest of the band are slouches on their respective instruments but he is a highlight for me. At times this is gonna remind you of that Yes/Gentle Giant style of prog, but they never settle into one mold for very long and constantly pull an original move out of it. Give this a shot, disappointment will not be a result.

And here's that blues LP I mentioned above. I got 2 or 3 requests for these guys, two for this one specifically (I'll try to dig out more when time arises). This is about as real as the blues gets, no psych excusions like the Groundhogs or even the Mac, no boogie and hard rock stuff like Savoy Brown. These guys play it straight and play it well, and Rod Piazza wanted it that way. Recommended for the blues harp that would make both Paul Butterfield and Magic Dick, two fine players themselves take notice at one time or another, I think this is some of the blues harp playing available. If you got the blues, Grease this up and play it loud.

Rage were comprised of former members of the band NUTZ, remember them? They were pretty good too. Love this song, it was featured on "Metal For Muthas" when they were still going by the NUTZ monicker, but this is a totally different version.

The first post for 2007!!

Happy new year all!!! Things are looking up here at the old casa de travellero and I hope, no, I'm sure that this is the first of many posts in 2007.

I have been getting so many requests (and that's not a complaint, keep 'em coming) and so many good people have been sending me files I am losing track of it all. But I figure soon things will slow down and I'll get caught up. So today is all requests except for some real cool NWOBHM (I gotta come up with an abbrieviation for that abbrieviation!!) from Bigfoot Kit (and he assures me there is more to come!!). And some folks sent some cool downloads in the comments of last post, so if you haven't checked those out, you may want too!

Sometimes the requests are filled quick, as this one here. The Appletree Theatre's LP Playback. This is a fun trip (literally) that has a bit of the exploito quality, but the songs are a bit on the bubblegum side. But don't let that deter you because there is plenty fuzzed out guitar and far out weirdness to keep it from getting too Fruitgummy. This is a Verve/Forecast release not a Buddah. So you can be assured it rises above the sugar pop the latter was (in)famous for.

Cool poop and definetly worth a lobe knock as Lord Buckley might say.

Sometimes the requests take a little longer to fill as this from way back in fall of last year, but I had a hell of a time finding it, in fact, it was by accident that I found it at all. It was unlisted on an old disc of programs I had, as I was trying to reload some printer drivers and it happened to be there. I did check this one but I suspect it was downloaded from P2P so if there are any errors I missed (I listened while running around the house doing other stuff) I apologise. But I don't think I did miss anything. So without any further mouthus-runamuckus, here is a fantastic piece of psychedelia called the Human Zoo.

Wow, This year has just flown by. I started this blog in February and since then, so many things have happened, so many things have changed, and I've met so many very cool people it's been amazing. Well for today I have put together what I hope will have a bit of something for everybody who visits here. Plus I have decided to indulge my own whims and firstly post my resolutions for the new year, secondly my top ten list of most wanted music (at this moment--could change at any time) and also to again thank each and everyone of the fine people who have made doing this blog a bunch of fun. I hope we're all still here next year at this time and I'm spewing off at the mouth again just like now!!

On the personal front, things may soon take a turn for the better, I may have a job in the works. Nothing to great, but let's just say my blogger name may change to Zoot Allures, because I may "Wind Up Working In A Gas Station" for about half of what I made before. But it's better than being broke. Still any denations and/or clicks on those ads are a big help, and I won't know for sure until mid-January unless something else pops up before then.

So without anymore delay--my new years resolutions for 2007.

1. To stop trying to "culture" my friends by playing obscure Finnish prog in the middle of parties.
2. To stop mailing back postage paid Business Reply Mail envelopes empty just to piss the senders off.
3. To stop sending nasty letters to rap artists anonymously telling them how little talent they have.
4. To start sending nasty letters to new punk bands anonymously telling them how little talent they have and that they deserve to get a swift rectum jolt from Paul Simeon's jackboot.
5. To not run outside at 3 am in various states of (un)dress to see if when I yell "Belsen was a gasser" at the top of my lungs it will echo like it does on the album.
6. To stop eating pop tarts without toasting them. They are so much better warm.
7. To stop using curse words so fucking much.
8. To stop blaming global corporations for all the ailments of the world and to find who the hell is responsible for the other .005 percent.
9. To stop saying "How can it get any worse?" because everytime I do I get shown.
10. To try to become a better person than I can ever be, set goals that are unattainable and then beat myself up over the fact I can't do anything I set out to do.
11. To reach out and touch somebody's hand and make this world a better place, if I can (although I doubt touching a hand is gonna do a goddamn thing).
12. To try and actually listen to all of this great music I've been downloading.

Christmas is over thanks be the power of time. I wanna you thank you 2 kind donators for your generous gifts at a tough time to be giving. Especially to me, some some shmuck who runs a little blog. The family and I appreciate it. And thanks to those who took the time to go click an ad or two over at my other neglected blog (I should have a bit more time to get some cool stuff over there at the beginning of the new year. Rippin' that stuff takes forever. And it's tedious at best. Much more fun to rip tunes from albums and relive old (and new) favorites. I got few emails lately with some pretty obscure requests (tryin' to stump me or what?) so some of these I lifted a few quotes from lysergia and other sites to better describe what you are getting yourself into by downloading a couple of these. I will get some more familiar stuff up next time but if you are in a post Christmas sense of adventure here's the shit. And away we go.......

Algarnas Tradgard's 1972 LP. The simply titled Framtiden Ar Ett Svavande Skepp - Forankrat I Fortiden.

ÄLGARNAS TRÄDGÅRD are a seminal, 6-piece Swedish combo who made one album in 1972, a cult classic and masterpiece of psychedelia that could have come straight out of the 'Kraut' school of Space Rock. After the release of their album, they kept on playing live for a while, even recording a full album's worth of new material in 1973-74. But it wasn't until 2001 that this material was mixed and released, on a cd entitled "Delayed".
(Note from me--very avant garde, mixes several genres, and spacerock is a small part, world music, harder psych, Saucerfull Floydian era would be the spacerock element I think, also some folk sounding stuff and a bit of almost new age atmospheres. Very mixed bag)

Closest thing to normal I'm posting today. By request, it's the OST to Wild in the Streets. Score was composed by Les Baxter, the exotica king but I think somebody dosed him, cuz this is pretty far out shit. Also includes the great garage anthem Shape of Things To Come by the non-existant Max Frost and the Troopers. Anyways, movie is about a young hip guy named Max Frost who gets elected president, has all the people over 40 shipped off to quasi-concentration camps and then loses his mind and comes to his senses all in less than a hour and a half. Richard Pryor played a role as a black militant based (I guess) on Malcolm X. One of those American International pictures B movies released after the beach fad wore thin and the biker revolution was just beginning.

Next on the agenda, the weird, freaked out Crash Coffin. Probably the weirdest guy in Ohio at the time of this release (1970 or 1973 depending on who you believe. Anyways, the blurb I downloaded from popsike will fill you in better.

Here's the self titled album by Crash Coffin, on the Columbus, Ohio Mus-I-Col label, CC69A, from, I think, 1973. This is a wild record…mixing straight ahead rock, folky psych tunes, one absolute monster heavy psych tune ("Alone Together") and a few goofy novelty tunes. Coffin is one far out guy! Very rare LP. Last copy I saw on eBay went for over $250. for those who don’t know the story, the "real" covers for the album were destroyed in an accident, so the LP was put in a plain white jacket with a "Mus-I-Col" logo. Coffin himself decorated most of the covers, but after a while got tired of it and the last batch were sent out like this one, with the plain white cover. I don’t know which version is rarer.

Cool garage stuff from the Savages, again, I will post a blurb from another source to describe this one. No I won't because it's gone and I ain't lookin' it up again. Here's what I remember. Bermuda band that recorded this one off LP and disappeared into the haze. Mainly raw covers of the days biggies but a few originals that really show some promise. Cool stuff if you dig obscenely rare garage rock. The file has some covers that are bigger but in worse condition than these to the left (or whereever blogger decides they will be be when I click save).

Well here it is and only 3 days before Christmas

I truly agonized over doing this, but after a drawn out meeting at work today, I was basically pink slipped. I cannot perform the duties of my job and they had to let me go. Really I'm surprised they put up with all the days off, and working from home as long as they did. But my doctors keep dicking me around and because it didn't happen at work and because I am basically an independant contractor hired at will and because of this that and a whole bunch of other things.....I have stooped to where I said I would never go and stuck a damn donation button up here (actually it's down there...by the links). Now, first off, nobody who comes to this site owes me a damn thing. I do this because I love doing it as I said the other day, and I have no intention of stopping (if fact looks like I'm gonna have a bunch more free time, yippee, too bad over half is spent in pain). I put it here because if you have an extra dime or quarter at the end of the week, maybe you could drop it in my (hypothetical) change jar. I know times are tough, if these were salad days it wouldn't hurt so much to ask and I probably wouldn't be in this situation in the first place. So I hope know one considers me a whore for doing this. I spoke to several friends who come here often about it and I got proverbial thumbs up from them, but of course they know my situation in more concrete terms then most people. I just don't want anyone to think I am trying to finace a new summer home by doing this. Just trying anything to keep the one I'm renting now. And if you feel I'm asking too much, I sympathise and realise that some of you may be in the same position as myself. (maybe some of you could go click my ads on my other blog, that always helps too). But I do promise as soon as this ordeal is over with (and it better be soon dammit) I will remove that thing and if any of you ever in the same dire straits I'm in at this time, I will return the favor.

Requested in the comments and I just happened to have it handy. This the the self titled LP from Hardwater, from 1968. In a layed back West Coast style and produced by this dude some of you may have heard of named David Axelrod the band featured ex-members of the Astronauts (the surf band!@!!) but sounds nothing like them. Nice psych from this midwestern band.

From 1974 here's the In For the Kill LP it has the original version of Crash Course in Brain Surgery (covered by that Metallica crew) and the title track smokes. Some lighter fare slows this one down bit (literally and figurativly) but still a good one and the rockin' stuff smokes.

And another that got more than a couple votes on my impromptu poll the other day. Here's Cubby Coda and the Brownsville Station with Yeah! from I believe '73. This one is a mixed bag going from hard rockers to R&B flavored stompers (B.S> were never really mellow) Saw these guys way past their hitmaking days in a small bar playing for about 30 people and they put on a show like they were headlining Madison Square Garden for 30,000. Cub was rock N Roll. Cub lived it and loved it, wrote about it, ate it drank it and smoked it.
We need more guys like the Cubmaster.He's probably doing a solo on top of the pearly gates as I write this.

And by popular demand the NWOBHM continues. This one I leave to the jury (you guys). It's Thunderstick's debut EP Feel Like Rock N Roll from '83. Thunderstick was in the Bruce Bruce version of Samson as well as an early incarnation of Iron Maidenbut this is abit lighter fare than most NWOBHM. For one thing the singer is female (which if you've ever heard Holy Moses doesn't necessarily mean a thing) but this is more hard rock than outright metal. But the songs are well crafted, the guitars are cranked up and it really does rock. I had this when it first came out and who knows where it ended up, but I inquired with Kit to see if he may have it, he didn't (he did some send some great goodies though see below!!)but hooked me up with some info, which I used to check with some folks I trade with and one of them came through! Memories, like the pages of my mind........

...when nothing goes right. Yesterday was one, my internet connection kept shutting down and most of these files have been uploaded at least 2 times. Add deposit files less than enticing upload speeds and it spells a recipe for a whole new kind of frustration. First up, the second highest vote getter in my little unofficial poll. It's the 1969 Uni album from Smoke (the U.S. band not the U.K. psych band that did My Friend Jack), who look like a bike gang that formed a band, and sound like one to. Nothing against biker gangs (I'm not suicidal). But this is greasy, oiley music to get yer hands dirty too. Bluesy hard rock, often kinda sloppy and quite a cool album to boot. The 18 minute plus M.C. Boogie says it all. Although a CD is pictured next to my witticisms there, I don't think this is in print on CD right now and I know this rip is from vinyl. But it rocks and that's all that matters.

And for Bigfoot Kit who has been quite the patient soul waiting for me to get this right, this slice of heaven went through hell getting here. Ripped not once but twice, uploaded not once but three times (I had my doubts if it wanted to be here!!) but finally here is the first solo album from ex-Kansas and sometime Proto Kaw man, Kerry Livgren called Seeds of Change. Livgren wanted to get away from the mystical to concentrate more on his spiritual side, his Christianity. Which on this album presents me with a conundrum (but no complaint). The second song, my favorite, has a guest singer, Ronnie James Dio, and Dio means Satan (Spanish slang term, I know now it also means God in Latin thanks to an email so maybe my theolgical theory is poot), as well as quite a few lyrics which are questionable from a Christian point of view. The title is Mask of the Deceiver so I wonder if Kerry got Dio to sing the song portraying Satan or what. I am far from theologian so I just though I'd put the thought in your mind for you to play around with. The rest of the album could pass for a good pre-Steve Morse period Kansas LP and if you like them you will surely like this. Originally released on Kirshner in 1980, the CD was released on Renaissance Records in 1996 and as far as I know is now out of print.

What a shocker!! I had never even heard of this before and I guy I trade with sent it too me with a bunch of rare stuff Thursday. Aveek from India requests it on Saturday and I haven't even listened to it yet. So it sparked my interest so I kicked back for a bit and listened. Absolutely amazing stuff!!!!! (I Can't put enough exclaimations behind it!!) This gets listed as hard prog but I think it's just stunningly good hard rock that blew my fuckin' doors off. Just killer from start to finish and not a bad track in the bunch. The first song is actually kinda folky but even it has a killer hook and after that the band kicks into riffin' and never looks back. Only downside, ripped at 160 from a less than perfect source, but this deserves a listen sooooooo much I had to put it up here. I give this one of my highest recommendations and if ANYONE has a better copy of this please please PLEASE send it my way. And thanks Aveek for calling my attention to it. It's now in heavy rotation in the Time Traveller jukebox.

And here's proof you can surprise a jaded old fart like me. The top vote getter in my little improptu survey. If you'd have ask me to bet on any one of the albums I listed as choices this would have been the longshot by a longshot (yeah, that's right!). But damn this is a fine record from the first post- Michael Schenker line up (the first of many). The band was in utter turmoil, Pete Way was about to leave (if he wasn't really already gone), Phil Moog said he sometimes couldn't keep track of daily happenings, and out of this choas came this twisted album of genius. The Writer kicks off the album in rockin' style and
form not seen since the Lights Out daze. Coulda done without the horns (or the synths that sound like 'em) and after this album, keyboards took over a bit too much for my liking. Nothing wrong with that in some bands but these guys were supposed to be metal for God's sake. But this one is great except for Terri which sounds like a bad Myles Goodwin/April Wine outtake and the kinda lame cover of Eddie Cochran's Somethin' Else. Everytime I hear that drum intro to Doing It All For You I think Rock Candy is about to start for a second. Sorry bout the low bitrate on this one.

Strife's 1975 album, "Rush". Proggy hard rock from the uk. This is their 1st album. The main guy was Gordon Rowley who went on to form Nightwing who you might remember from the early '80's. Interesting album. Unusual.

......I've been kind of reflective lately, maybe it's the drugs I have to take, maybe it's the time of year, maybe it's my age (I'll be 40 very soon). I know that may sound young to some of you but I'm feeling very old lately. I've always sort of made it a personal policy not to let politics(although I do go on a rant now and again on things that I feel strongly about) or my personal life bleed into this blog, which is supposed to be fun. And yes, it still is a shitload of fun for me. It is actually theraputic for me to do this, it is a joy to hear that so many good people out there share some of the same favorites I do. I appreciate the fact that maybe I made someone happy just by sharing something that means a lot to me. Weather or not it is immoral for me to do so, I want to continue to do so. And I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for the support and encouragement to keep going. I've made several friends since starting this thing back in late February and even though it real time it's only a baby, in blog time it's outlived several of it's original inspirations and as long as you guys (and gals if you're out there) keep comin' back I'll keep throwin' this crap up for you to enjoy. But I want to try to keep it fresh and exciting, and am always open to new ideas and concepts. Feedback is always welcome, constructive criticism included, as long it's friendly. Thanks for reading and I will be shedding light upon why I write this as time goes on. Trust me it's not cryptic or anything. But for now, let me quote a band my kids love and I can actually tolerate, Smashmouth, and say "Fuck it let's rock!!!"

A late one for this style of music (1971) this one sounds like kind of Doorsy (early Doors) but more backwoods style psych and the album goes for megabucks. Pretty good stuff if you dig the rural psych genre.

This is the first Hawkwind album I ever bought myself when i was about 12 years old. My favorite song on here is Kings of Speed and now that I know what a speedfreak Lemmy confessed to being the song takes on a whole new meaning. But there is not a bad track on this album from 1975 which features a bonus track, the original version of Motorhead, the song that foretold Lemmy wasn't going to stand still in space rock land much longer.

Here is an old 45 I was absolutely blown away by. If you like the hard Strawberry Alarm Clock stuff give this a try, these guys kinda sound like 'em but have some moves of their own. This pic over here is just something I found, it probably has nothing to do with this band. If you search around on the net there isn't a whole lot about them (they do have a page or two), but this single is circa 1967-8 and is great heavy psych and rarity in the fact that both sides are excellent.

And the other day when I was babbling on about songs I listened to as a kid and didn't really know what they were about, I casually mentioned these guys and I got an email asking if I had the album, which I do. So here in all of it's cannibalistic glory is Timothy plus all the other stuff they recorded (it's the Collectables CD). I read a great essay about how the song came to be by it's creator Rupert Holmes (yeah the Pina Colada song guy). The original goal was basically to get a song past the censors. And Timothy turned out to be the result. I still love it but since I know the story it's a bit creepy. Maybe it's even more intriguing because of it.

I've posted these cats b-4, and gotten a good response, so here is my personal fave, Shredder. Cool hard rockin' mixed with the usual introspective hippy type ballads and it makes for a first rate mish mash of good ol' rock and roll.

Kinda psychy, kinda poppy and these guys do a few too many covers (not so much as on their first LP) but they do have a bit of originality and it shows as the covers aren't always your by the numbers ripoffs. I have the first but beat is a kind word to describe the condition so until the right one comes along enjoy this great period piece from Group Therapy. It's somewhere around 37 minutes long.

I was ripping this little gem the other day and I'll be damned if someone didn't request something by these biker-rock types. Crude and rude and 50 different different kinds of fun. Boogie hard rock from Simon Stokes who is still kicking around (at least last time I checked anyway, I recently got a CD of the man dueting with none other than Timothy Leary and one of him solo, and he was only gotten cruder with age). I'm not totallysure but I think I posted it before, but this is a much nicer rip at 256 and still my favorite Bloodrock LP. I remember listening to D.O.A. on my aunt's stereo back when that gruesome song was actually a hit and not realising what it was all about (did the same with Timothy by the Buoys). Hell, I was 5 folks. Cannabalism and plane crashes never even crossed my mind. All I ever thought was they were just cool songs and I still laugh when I think about asking what a mawhasue was when I first heard Bennie and the Jets. Ah, to be young again!

I personally like this album but it didn't happen overnight and when it came out I damn near threw it like a frizbee. I was already upset with Def Leppard for Pyromania after the brilliance that was High N Dry (Pete Willis was 20 times the guitarist Phil Collen ever was, but maybe , in hindsight, he did the right thing getting out when he did, Lep was cursed) and then TOPT comes out with what sounded at the time like a clone. But on further investigation and again, the years passing by, this one ain't so bad after all. Really the only clunker to my ears these days is that opening track that sounds like a record company ploy to make some moola. Just skip that one and you have a fairly rockin' affair here. Let's just say it's much better than Hysteria.

The song on the Potliquor LP labeled "Cheers" is actually "New Orleans Ladies" by Lousiana LeRoux, a song I ripped for Skypilot as a request. All music says it's southern rock. I'd call it blues-rock with a touch of southern influence and a huge injection of hard rock on several songs. Pot Liquor's first LP from 1970 called Levee Blues. To me it's kind of like Trapeze's album You Are the Music as the ballads are soft and mellow but the rockin' songs are total pounders. Good stuff.

Well, it's 23 more days till Christmas and I haven't done a thing yet, so the posts may slow down a bit (or not, let's see how things go) for a couple weeks. And if blogger doesn't quit acting so fucking irratic with my posts I'm gonna go ballistic. The stability has been shitty lately. But enough about that, here's my next entry in my fave albums posts. This is the same Poobah everyone goes ga-ga over but it's their 1998 recordings that were self released and are now getting hard to find. Monster records is or was going to re-release this but I have found no info. This is a low bitrate (160k) as I got it from a friend I trade with a while back, but it sounds excellent. Just sterling production and Jim's guitar sounds as if he plugged it into 1974 and the sounds came swirling out. Absolutely astounding sounds from thisYoungstown Ohio band.

And here's another great one that I really like a lot.
This is Thundermug's Strikes LP from 1972. There were at least 2 and possibly 3 versions of this album and this is the original Canaidian Axe records version (there was a re-release in Canada as well as a Columbia records version here in the USA and those may or may not differ) but there were a few different tracks from the Axe and Columbia releases. I really like the sound these guys have, it really doesn't sound like any other band I've heard and other than the cover of the Kinks "You Really Got Me" (when will people stop covering this song? The original cannot be topped.) there isn't a bad track here. Some worldly rhythms mixed with nice riffage and you've got what some people call entertainment.

Not much on the net about this early Krautrock entry. The guitarist went on to Epsilon and that's really about it. This stuff sounds like what you'd get if you crossed Mick Abraham's period Tull with Steppenwolf or Atomic Rooster keyboards and threw in a happy pinch of Amon Duul II or Xhol Caravan for good measure. Good bluesy hard rock with flute and sax (and that in yer face hammond). This is the band's sole album from 1970.

By request, here's the last Paul Revere and the Raiders LP to have any hint of garage rock to it. After this they sort of lost direction until they came back as the Raiders with the huge hit from '71 Indian Reservation. But the story on this album's title is that FM radio didn't want to know these guys toward the end of the 60's and in order to score some airplay they sent out the Let Me single under an alias. And that alias was Pink Puzz. Don't know if it helped their cause but it does paint an interesting picture of rock radio. This one is the Sundazed reissue with a few interesting bonus cuts.

Back in my metalhead days this was the first Gillan LP I ever bought. I got it used for a buck and at the time I thought I had it figured out why it was so cheap. Let's just say it saw very little airtime in my bedroom where Metallica and Slayer were the platters of choice. About 6 or 7 years ago I found the CD of this album and bought it to see if my teenage assessment and dismissal were in need of reprisal and to my surprise it became a favorite in my 30-something listening room and as I grabbed more and more Gillan goodies, decided this was my favorite. It's by no means a desert island disc or anything, but it's a very good hard rockin' LP!!

My entry for today is a kind of bastard child to most of the stuff that has been posted, but it still qualifies. The charmingly named Split Beaver released their one and only album on the UK Heavy Metal label (also home to Witchfinder General) to little or no fanfare, and all the major metal rags at the time gave it horrid ratings at best. It has more in common with bands like Tygers of Pan Tang or even late 70's Status Quo than with the Venoms, Leppards, and Diamond Heads usually associated with NWOBHM. But still, time has been good to this one and it gets much better reviews these days and is a worthy addition to any collection.

to those who celebrate it!!! And to those who don't, well, happy Thursday to you!! Here is a potpouri of groovy tunes to either bang your head too, or to sit and listen and get your mind in a festive mood regardless of what day it is. Here is a smokingly rare LP from a Southern Michigan band called the Fredric. This one has some bonus tracks and is fantastic psych. It was originally released in 1968 to little or no fanfare and now goes for insane sums of greenbacks.

By request, Ian Gillan's 1979 lp Mr. Universe, and again this is the CD version with bonus tracks. In my opinion they could have left those off, but there is a cool version of Smoke on the WaWa that's alright. This album is much better than Child In Time or Clear Air Turbulance, which to my ears were misguided attempts at progressive music that just weren't that good. But when Gillan decided to start rockin' hard again (this album and the brilliant follow-up Glory Road which I will get posted eventually) all the pieces fell back into place. But the real glory road was a few years in the distance when he would rejoin Deep Purple for Perfect Strangers.

For those folks diggin' on the southern rock of Hookfoot, here's another great band that did have a hit of sorts with Jackie Blue in the 70's (not on this album). This is kinda mellow, but still has a few rockin' tunes.

And this, I will try not to gush over too much. But it is one of my ten favorite metal albums of all time, and I can't really put into words why. Most metal reviewers like Martin Popoff also gush over this one. It's just an absolute classic. And it's the type of album that doesn't hit you right away. In fact the first time I heard it I thought it was a bit generic sounding. But over time it grew and grew to be a monster and I'd find myself humming Jesse James' or Carol. But the killer track I will love till my dying day is Handing You Over. Give this a shot and tell me what you think!!!!

posts here is the band that is probably more famous for a guy that was in the band for another than anything they ever did themselves . White Spirit's guitarist was Janick Gers later in this band some of you may have heard of Iron Maiden. Here is their self titled release from 1983 (at least mine says 1983, but I think it was recorded back in 1980 and may have originally been released then, but I know very little about the band).

First:
A note to those who are having trouble with these files. I don't what causes it, but I've gotten emails and comments saying a couple of the files are corrupt. I can absolutely assure you, the files are not corrupt, I check each of them and I have never gotten a corrupt file (mine or from anyone else)from this upload host. If I had I never would have begun using them. I would recommend trying a download accelerator if you have continued problems and really want something I have on offer. If you don't want to mess with download accelerators, just try it again, it's free and there is no waiting period except 25 seconds or so at the very beginning. I love to share good music and I'd hate to think someone that would like to check it out can't. I feel that the music I share deserves a wider audience and that's why I do this. Now now for today's enlightenment:

These guys & Redbone. That's all I know of American Indian rock bands. And these guys (and the band they formed after this) are the only AI psych band I know of. I'm probably wrong but that's it for me. And this album rocks. Hard psych. Good hard psych. These guys went on to form XIT and further public awareness of "the plight of the redman" but for me, this is the one to get. An album that really deserves it's status as a top shelf collector's item. Take it for spin.

By request from long ago. Canadian arena rock that sounds to my ears a hell of a lot like Styx. I bought the albums on a trek to Toronto a few years back on the strength of the cover of this first one. And I must say they are pretty damn good at what they do. There has been a CD reissue of both of these on one CD at some point, I know not if it's still in print or not. You may wanna check if you like this.

And for yet another installment in the NWOBHM series. This band has long been a favorite (and another band I first tried on the strength of the cover alone) since I first dropped a needle on "Love On Smack" from their Friends of Hell LP. What I have here is stuff I didn't discover until much later, their 1st 7" Burning A Sinner and their 12" EP Soviet Invasion. Both are fairly similar to the stuff on their 2 lone albums and dirgey Black Sabbathisms abound on both. The 7" is rough compared to the production of the 2 albums (and the 12" too) but it's a nice insight to where these guys came from.

And I have what is hopefully a delightfully diverse drove of ditties for your drinking and driving endeavors. Those are words with a D this time.

First up, the "real" Stillwater. A southern rock band with quite a soulful vocalist in the form of one Jimmy Hall. One thing I find funny, and it's not just these guys, but it seems to be southern rock bands in general have way to many friggin' people in their bands. I still remember the old .38 Special videos from the '80s with Donnie Van Zant standing with a guitar hittin' barre chords that couldn't possibly have been part of the music, plus there was only one guitar playin' at the time. Anyways, 7 dudes in this band (and a bass player named Allsion that looks like a dude so I will go with dude) and on any given song I hear at most a 5 piece band (and that's during the solos). 3 guitarists???? Well, that isn't to detract from the solid groovin' contained in this here slab o'tuneage. Best cut is the minor hit Mindbender but Sam's Jam, Fantasy Park and Rock N Roll Loser are all worthy of your ear for pure southern satisfaction.

Here's one I have been looking for forever. I have the 1st one by these guys (I think it's posted somewhere)and it's a fantastic garagey psych album with loads of fuzz and wah, and this one here is more of the same thank God. Ripped by someone other than me at 192k from vinyl and it sounds great. I would give this one 9 out of 10 stars. It's really that good to me!
