A couple quickies and a note

Got this done and wanted to get it up here. I know nothing about these guys except they are another Canadian band. Had this album for for years and got a request for it a couple days ago. Enjoyable album from 1977.

And I forgot to post this very cool 7" Kit sent. Another stoner rock tribute to Leafhound and Captain Beyond. This time from Unida and Entombed.
I liked Unida so much I went and found more stuff by them!!!

A QUICK NOTE TO ALL:

All of the rapidshare.de and rapidshare.com links will be expiring in 5-6 days. That is over 525 files from the beginning of the blog up until a month ago. There is no way in hell I can salvage these files so grab 'em quick. There is a chance the rapidshare.de account may be extended if I get 1000 points in the next 5-6 days but the rapidshare.com stuff is gonna be gone. I will eventually repost it all but I'd rather spend my time posting new stuff as opposed to wasting time on stuff that gets 2-4 downloads a week.

What the hell is a hookfoot?

Just good ol southern influenced rock n roll, that's all. Here is their first and second albums today and if you dig into the bowels of the ol blog here you should be able to dig up Roaring, their 4th somewhere. I also just got ahold of Communication, their 3rd LP on sealed vinyl which I will get up here soon. Enjoy. I read somewhere that Bob Kulick was a member. Don't know if he's on either of these or not.

Hey mine's a promo copy too! Big deal, right?

And to continue the ever-popular NWOBHM
posts here is the band that is probably more famous for a guy that was in the band for another than anything they ever did themselves . White Spirit's guitarist was Janick Gers later in this band some of you may have heard of Iron Maiden. Here is their self titled release from 1983 (at least mine says 1983, but I think it was recorded back in 1980 and may have originally been released then, but I know very little about the band).

Couple requests filled

When I posted the 1st Coven album I had a bunch of people ask if I had the other two. I didn't at the time but now I do and here's the 3rd and final, Blood on the Snow from 1974. Good stuff!!!

http://depositfiles.com/files/378786

I got a couple emails for more Canterbury stuff so here's one from the band that is probably the dictionary definition of the Canterbury sound, Soft Machine with their jazzy prog 4th album imaginatively titled 4. Luckily the music is much more imaginative.

http://depositfiles.com/files/378722

And staying with the NWOBHM theme here is the Loser EP from Angel Witch, their first output, I believe. I think this has bonus tracks on here. I'm not sure, I got this from P2P a long time ago and I never really checked it out.

Enjoy, back soon with another Hookfoot, and some more psych & prog gems.

Lincoln St. Exit, Zon, and more NWOBHM

First:
A note to those who are having trouble with these files. I don't what causes it, but I've gotten emails and comments saying a couple of the files are corrupt. I can absolutely assure you, the files are not corrupt, I check each of them and I have never gotten a corrupt file (mine or from anyone else)from this upload host. If I had I never would have begun using them. I would recommend trying a download accelerator if you have continued problems and really want something I have on offer. If you don't want to mess with download accelerators, just try it again, it's free and there is no waiting period except 25 seconds or so at the very beginning. I love to share good music and I'd hate to think someone that would like to check it out can't. I feel that the music I share deserves a wider audience and that's why I do this. Now now for today's enlightenment:

These guys & Redbone. That's all I know of American Indian rock bands. And these guys (and the band they formed after this) are the only AI psych band I know of. I'm probably wrong but that's it for me. And this album rocks. Hard psych. Good hard psych. These guys went on to form XIT and further public awareness of "the plight of the redman" but for me, this is the one to get. An album that really deserves it's status as a top shelf collector's item. Take it for spin.

http://depositfiles.com/files/372667

By request from long ago. Canadian arena rock that sounds to my ears a hell of a lot like Styx. I bought the albums on a trek to Toronto a few years back on the strength of the cover of this first one. And I must say they are pretty damn good at what they do. There has been a CD reissue of both of these on one CD at some point, I know not if it's still in print or not. You may wanna check if you like this.

http://depositfiles.com/files/372594

The cover of the 2nd album.

http://depositfiles.com/files/372630

And for yet another installment in the NWOBHM series. This band has long been a favorite (and another band I first tried on the strength of the cover alone) since I first dropped a needle on "Love On Smack" from their Friends of Hell LP. What I have here is stuff I didn't discover until much later, their 1st 7" Burning A Sinner and their 12" EP Soviet Invasion. Both are fairly similar to the stuff on their 2 lone albums and dirgey Black Sabbathisms abound on both. The 7" is rough compared to the production of the 2 albums (and the 12" too) but it's a nice insight to where these guys came from.

7" : http://depositfiles.com/files/372548

12" : http://depositfiles.com/files/372559

Til the next time---enjoy.

I'm on a roll

And I have what is hopefully a delightfully diverse drove of ditties for your drinking and driving endeavors. Those are words with a D this time.

First up, the "real" Stillwater. A southern rock band with quite a soulful vocalist in the form of one Jimmy Hall. One thing I find funny, and it's not just these guys, but it seems to be southern rock bands in general have way to many friggin' people in their bands. I still remember the old .38 Special videos from the '80s with Donnie Van Zant standing with a guitar hittin' barre chords that couldn't possibly have been part of the music, plus there was only one guitar playin' at the time. Anyways, 7 dudes in this band (and a bass player named Allsion that looks like a dude so I will go with dude) and on any given song I hear at most a 5 piece band (and that's during the solos). 3 guitarists???? Well, that isn't to detract from the solid groovin' contained in this here slab o'tuneage. Best cut is the minor hit Mindbender but Sam's Jam, Fantasy Park and Rock N Roll Loser are all worthy of your ear for pure southern satisfaction.

http://depositfiles.com/files/371134

Another one I posted many moons ago in the early daze of this blog, and nobody much wanted it, cuz it was missing a couple tracks. Well here it is again, this time all tracks present. And I have also dug up the 2nd album, Fever Shot, and put it here. I do have the 3rd and album too, but it is pretty wasted and I'm going to have do some work on it, but if interest is there I will get up here. Promise.

http://depositfiles.com/files/370968

And here's the followup.

http://depositfiles.com/files/371055

As promised, the full LP of Vardis.

Love that blurb on the cover!!!

Finally---the other Hapshash!!!! and some requests

While I try to figure out what's wrong with the Eden file from yesterdays post.

First up today, a pleasant surprise!! I finally found the 2nd Hapshash album. The 1st was and is still a very popular file and was also one of the first albums I ever uploaded when I started this madness of blogging. So here is it is, and if the sound only comes out of one channel this time I'm commiting suicide because it's been checked numerous times.

http://depositfiles.com/files/369184

Now a couple requests:

First--someone asked for Vardis 100MPH and I didn't know if they meant the original EP from '79 (Redball records RR015) or the full album from a year or so later so first I am going to put up the EP. And as an added bonus here is a BBC Session with 4 tracks and none duplicate the EP.
Tomorrow or so I will try to get the album posted and just so you know, only 2 tracks from the ep are on the album so you Vardis fans may wanna grab them all.

100 MPH EP: http://depositfiles.com/files/369277

BBC Sessions: http://depositfiles.com/files/369331

And since I have been slacking on the prog side of things here is a request filled for some Kraan. To me these guys are on the rockin' side of prog but the arrangements and interplay of the band is what makes it great.

Lovin' this album!!!!!

Here's one I have been looking for forever. I have the 1st one by these guys (I think it's posted somewhere)and it's a fantastic garagey psych album with loads of fuzz and wah, and this one here is more of the same thank God. Ripped by someone other than me at 192k from vinyl and it sounds great. I would give this one 9 out of 10 stars. It's really that good to me!

Damn, I'm just a sucker for exploito-psych

Use thou imagination. Pretend there are pictures here because blogger is a thorn in the side of all that lives and it refuses to post the cool pics I had ready to beautify my written flakes of inverted dandruff. And I like the moron I am hit my computer yelling come on dammit like it's gonna make their sorry ass picture uploader work. Ahh dahellwitit, I'll post them later.....if it'll let me.

First up today, a very cool exploito fest released on the Smash label. It's called Psychedelia---A Musical Light Show by the Mesmerizing Eye. I have not a clue who anyone in the M.E. is and frankly, I don't care. This one is top shelf exploito and I came out of my usual catatonic state and muttered an ever so slight yippee when I found this. The kids wondered why the old man was all wound up and I'll tell ya. All the bells and whistles of the best of the genre, sub-par Hendrixesque solos, sound effects and you've got my kind-o-fun. Sorry bout the bitrate on this one(160), it ain't my rip and I have no idea's whose rip it is. But it still sounds good for comin' off-a that there second (third maybe?) rate vinyl that Mercury and Smash records tended to press this kind of item on. (I've seen mint lookin' slabs sound like a campfire was cracklin' in the mix. Rumor was all the good vinyl went to Jerry Lee Lewis and even Linda Gail couldn't get no satisfaction). But this is fairly trippin' stuff so I'll shut up and let you guys hear it.

http://www.uploading.com/files/D735NRPS/ME_PAMLS.rar.html

And for my second post of the day, it's the 2nd and last elpee from those theramin lovin' freaks called Lothar and the Hand People. It's called Space Hymn. I posted the first LP, Introducing many travels ago and it has all the bonus stuff you'd get if you bought the CD with their complete recordings, so if you put that and this together, you got it. Did that make sense? Anyhee, needless to say this stuff is el-fun-o and I like it mucho much. So, I can only hope that you will too.

http://depositfiles.com/files/361624

And if you don't, I have posted, with permission, some honest -to - God NWOBH stuff posted below that Bigfoot Kit sent, along with an EP of his great band Bigfoot which explains his nick much better than anything else ever would. I'll let him take over comments at this point.

BIGFOOT - "It Feels Like This" mini album (2004).

This is my own band, we're currently working on an album which'll hopefully be released next year, so have posted the mini album in the hope of drumming up some fresh interest before the album comes out.

Here's a few more.....

Some good garage-psych especially the 7 minute guitar rave up which closes the album. Fun stuff from the Human Beinz.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LT6U1JSH

Seems like quite a few of the West Coast psych bands spent the early 70's switching to a more country rock oriented style. IABD are no exception with their 1971 LP Marrying Maiden. It still has a nice laid back charm to it, but it's not as good as the self titled debut.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z6BEAICS

After the WIshbone Ash albums were posted a week or so ago, got a lot of emails and a request or two in the comments for more. Well, for starters here is their 1974 album There's the Rub. I had listed it as their 1982 album and written a blurb that was meant for Twin Barrells Burning which I will post at a later date.

Skyhooks & Fargo

I'm postin' 'em as I rip 'em folks. Got this in a thrift store way back in the 80's mixed in with a bunch a progressive albums and I took a chance.

I wasn't overly ecstatic with it, but a guy moved into my apartment complex from Austrailia and told me these guys were gods to many there. So I figured, what the hell, give it another chance. And I did.

Still no sparks flying or anything but as songs started to stick with me and as I payed more attention to the tongue in cheek lyrics, I realised these guys had something!!! I consider this album to be a worthy 70's glam/hard rock album and many of the tunes tucked within have gone onto car-tapes and compilations, especially "the Other Side" and "Horror Movie" which is a hard rocker worthy of Halloween comps.
Check out the lyrics for the songs "You Just Lie Me Coz I'm Good In Bed" and "Smartarse Songwriters". I guarantee at least a smile.

This one isn't gonna knock you off your feet (or out of your chair) unless 70's glam does such things, but it's worthy of at least a few listens.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FL7T00FC

Here's another. I got this done faster than expected because it is really short. Typical RCA Victor length from around this time (1969) at aproximately 23 minutes.

But this folk-rock duo pack a lot into it. That duo is Dean Wilden and Tony Decker from Salt Lake City, Utah; with added guitar and bass by Rick Cunha and Terry Paul of Hearts & Flowers, one of the first (if not the first) country rock groups. But this short record goes beyond the limitations of folk music with a nice bit of psychedelic flourish, much like Chad & Jeremy's two excursions into that tiny genre (the Ark & Of Cabbages & Kings). In fact this album reminds me a lot of the Cabbages and Kings album with its musical imagery and I would have no problem placing a bet that if you liked that album, this would be very enjoyable also! This copy is ripped from my vinyl at 320k and split into individual tracks. Recommended stuff!!!

Hope you enjoy. Should have more tomorrow!!!

Cross Country's 1973 self titled LP

Cross Country are a bit like Crosby Stills Nash & Young, at least in the tight harmonies and rural folky hippie rock they produce. Nice laid back sip on iced tea and smoke some herb type o' stuff. Every now and then they do give rocking out a shot so it's not all mellow. This was released in 1973 on Atco records and is their only LP. As all the songs kind of run into each other, it is a one track file and is recorded from vinyl (CD was released in Japan but I don't like it 36 dollars worth!!). This is my first attempt with a file host other than rapidshare and the upload took twice as long. Any feedback on the download(s) would help me to decide if this is the way I'll be going. Thanks in advance.

Tracks:

1)Today 2)Just A Thought 3)Cross Country
4)In the Midnight Hour 5)Things With Wings
6)Extended Wings 7)Tastes So Good To Me
8)A Fall Song 9)Choir Boy 10)A Ball Song
11)A Smile Song

Maybe if I do this

my blog will reappear. Lets see!!!

Sunday, October 22, 2006

Finished!

I have done all I am going to do. It's too ridiculous. I have a few more posts to fix over at the live blog and I'm done with this noise. I will have also decided after favorable feedback from the skypilot to switch over to megaupload as soon as possible. If I get enough points to renew either rapidshare account I will do so. I can't promise anything with those accounts except they will be expiring on the 26th so the .de side now deletes after 10 days of no download, which rapidshare.com now says 45 days so I would suggest grabbing the ".de" stuff first if there is anything you still need.

A mixed bag of goodies for the weekend!!!!

Here's a boatload of various cool stuff. From garage rock to hard rock and everything in-between I think I've got it covered. First off, here's a great one from the NC6. In fact, the only album that is really of the garage genre from these guys as most of their other albums are more sunshine pop/bubblegummy type stuff.

One from vinyl here. This is Kracker's LP La Familia. The one I have has a box cover made to resemble a cigar box. Inside that cigar box is a mixed bag of hard rock, blues rock, latin rock, and good ol rock and roll. There are no bad tracks here at all, I really like this one!!!

Another one from vinyl, and this is one file (no track separation). It's the Weight with their '69 psychy One Man's Queen Is Another Man's Sweathog. Is that an ugly cover or what? Maybe where Jo Jo Gunne got the idea for their Jumpin' the Gunne LP.

I debated on sticking this up here and guess what...... why not? It's the first solo album from Roger Taylor, drummer for Queen, and in my opinion it's better than anything his band was releasing at the time. It's classic rock, maybe with a tinge of new wave, but done tastefully so as not to overpower a decent batch of songs.
Roger wasn't a bad singer! The album opener No Violins and the 50's influenced Let's Get Crazy are recommended.

A great LP from '69!! Keef Hartley Band's Halfbreed.

And for a bit of folky comic relief, here's the Moral Eels Eat the Holy Modal Rounders.

An underrated LP from Joe Cocker. This was released in 1976. Joe was in pretty bad shape around this time, but he shows he still has what it takes in the vocal department.

And last but not least from me, here is Eno's first solo album and also my favorite Here Come the Warm Jets. Baby's On Fire still freaks me out a bit and Robert Fripp's solo on it gives me chills. I've always liked Driving Me Backwards, Blank Frank and the 50's inspired Cindy Tells Me also. The latter kinda reminds me of a Robert Calvert song but the title escapes me.

I hope everyone enjoys all these, and if you do, please find it in your heart to go over to my other blog (www.liveandotherwise.blogspot.com) and give my ads at the top of the page a click or two. La familia and I would really appreciate it. I may even get and update done over there in the next day or so.

And just in case those above aren't something that you want, Cor who is quickly becoming a regular contributor here has sent even more great stuff. Thanks Cor, I really appreciate it!!!

Another Neil, one of my goofy vinyl posts and a good read

Another one from Cor!! This one is so hard to find, and at 320k no less!!! I love this album and as I played "Wonderin'", the great hilarious video (although by todays standards considered amateur at best) that Neil made started playing in my mind. Not typical Neil, but in my opinion very essential Neil. Thanks again Cor!

Also for you folk(s) who poo poo my "shoddy and inferior" (you know who you are!!!) vinyl rips don't download this fairly obscure Standells album from 1981. It was a nice overview of the group done on the mainly local and dance oriented AVI label that went belly-up not too long after this was released. I don't think a Vol.2 was ever released and if it was it's rare as hell. This is called An Anthology of Legendary Recordings Vol.1. (at 320k). It covers not only the garage stuff, but the harder to find psych stuff and the very late classic rockin' stuff.

And finally, to those holier than thou people who say bloggers are killing album sales and causing the artists to lose money here is a very informative article I ran across by accident a few years back and I thought it was a timely piece to give a link to here. If you've already read it pass the link along to a friend. It's a real eye opener. Janis is kind of in the same boat as the majority of the artists I post here and her article shows that artists that haven't had hits in many years need the kind of exposure we (bloggers & p2p) give them. Exposure is one of the best ways to get these bands message to the people.

Here's another one I have been promising to post for a while now. This is Coven's LP Witchcraft (Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls) and it proclaims it is the first recorded black mass. Don't know if that's true, one, because I don't keep up on black masses, two, because I think either Anton LeVay or Alister Crowley released an LP of one earlier but I am unsure (see reason one again). This is 9 tracks of medium heavy, sometimes bluesy rock with a singer that sounds like an aggressive Grace Slick. The 10th track is the 13 minute spoken mass. It's a bit spooky but not as intimidating as the cover would lead one to believe. I tried to upload this to rapidshare a one file (I thought they were allowing files over 100meg and I did upload some the other day) but it wouldn't let me so I put tracks 1-5 in the first and 6-10 in the second (the mass is in the 2nd). You don't need both so if you want to try it out the first file is the shortest.

Tracks are tagged and ripped from vinyl at 320k.

New D.G. link and more to come

Here is a new link Cor sent for Diamond Girl.

Yet another one from Cor!! In his email he mentioned this is his favorite album by them. No Smoke Without Fire from Wishbone Ash.

And another vinyl rip. This is a strange little (about 30 minutes) record I have been threatening to stick up here for quite a while now. It is the Tingling Mother's Circus. The album is A Circus of the Mind. I categorize it as exploito psych, but some may call it sunshine pop with a little extra zing, or maybe even bubblegum. Any way you slice it, it's still a trippy album, with lots of blips and boings and other groovy sound effects layered on top of the run of the mill 60's pop tunes. Covers include theBeeGees (Mining Disaster), Beatles (Yellow Submarine), and even the Statler Brothers (Flowers on the Wall). It was produced and played on by a certain Elliot Randall, but other than that is all pseudonyms.
